Trump’s Ultimatum to Hamas: A Last Chance for Peace or a Path to War?

Former President Donald Trump has issued an ultimatum to Hamas, demanding the terrorist organization accept a comprehensive peace agreement by Sunday, October 5th at 6:00 PM Eastern Time. The announcement came via Trump’s Truth Social platform on October 3rd, 2025, where he emphasized this represents a “last chance” for Hamas to reach a diplomatic solution.

In his statement, Trump warned of unprecedented consequences if Hamas fails to comply with the deadline, declaring that failure to reach an agreement would result in severe military action. The former president noted that approximately 25,000 Hamas fighters have already been killed in response to the October 7th, 2023 attacks on Israel, with remaining forces reportedly surrounded and strategically contained.

The proposed 20-point peace initiative, which has received Israel’s approval, outlines several key requirements. These include the complete dismantling of terrorist infrastructure in Gaza, the establishment of a terror-free zone, and the release of all hostages – both living and deceased – within 72 hours of Israeli agreement to the terms. The plan also calls for Israel to free 250 prisoners serving life sentences and 1,700 Gazans detained following the October 7th attacks.

Under the proposed framework, Gaza would undergo significant administrative changes, with governance transferred to a technocratic Palestinian committee operating under the supervision of a “Board of Peace.” This board would be chaired by Trump himself and include various heads of state, with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair among its members.

The plan emphasizes that forced relocation from Gaza would not be permitted, though Trump has urged Palestinian civilians to evacuate areas of potential conflict for their safety. Humanitarian aid delivery to Gaza is included as a crucial component of the agreement.

A notable aspect of the proposal involves the complete removal of Hamas from Gaza’s governance and administration. To maintain security, an International Stabilization Force would be deployed to train and support verified Palestinian police forces, with input from Jordan and Egypt due to their regional expertise.

Trump’s message also addressed Hamas directly, warning that those who don’t surrender would face continued pursuit: “We know where and who you are, and you will be hunted down, and killed.” He referenced the October 7th attack as a “massacre” that claimed the lives of various Israeli civilians, including “babies, women, children, old people, and many young men and women.”

The comprehensive plan aims to achieve broader regional stability while ensuring Gaza’s redevelopment. The proposed oversight mechanism, combining international supervision with local governance, represents a significant shift from current arrangements. The initiative’s emphasis on deradicalization and security measures, coupled with provisions for humanitarian assistance and prisoner exchanges, reflects an attempt to address both immediate crisis management and long-term peace-building objectives.

Trump’s ultimatum marks a decisive moment in the ongoing conflict, presenting Hamas with a clear choice between accepting negotiated terms or facing what he describes as unprecedented military
consequences. The deadline’s approach has intensified focus on the region, as international observers await Hamas’s response to this significant diplomatic initiative.

The proposed solution represents one of the most detailed frameworks yet presented for resolving the Gaza conflict, combining security measures, governance reforms, and humanitarian considerations in an attempt to achieve lasting peace in the region.
