Basketball legend Michael Jordan has seemingly acquired a new private aircraft – a Gulfstream G650ER valued at approximately $65 million. The luxurious jet was recently spotted at Palm Beach International Airport, sporting a distinctive custom paint scheme that includes Jordan’s iconic Jumpman logo.
Footage of the aircraft on the tarmac was shared on TikTok earlier this week, revealing its eye-catching design. The jet’s tail number, N236MJ, incorporates Jordan’s initials, further suggesting his ownership. According to Federal Aviation Administration records, the aircraft was registered last Tuesday to a company called MJ Air LLC, under the care of Jump Management – Jordan’s family office.
The G650ER is a popular choice among the world’s elite, with other billionaire owners including tech moguls Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Mark Zuckerberg. This long-range business jet boasts impressive capabilities, with a maximum range of 8,630 miles – sufficient to fly from Florida to Tokyo without stopping. It can reach speeds of up to Mach 0.925 (approximately 610 mph) at its cruising altitude of 41,000 feet, surpassing the speed of commercial airliners.
The interior of the G650ER can be customized to suit the owner’s preferences. It has the capacity to accommodate up to 19 passengers, with sleeping arrangements for up to 10 individuals, depending on the chosen configuration. The jet also offers the possibility of including a private bedroom, although the specific layout of Jordan’s aircraft remains unknown.
Jordan, who made history as the first athlete to achieve billionaire status in 2014, currently has an estimated net worth of $3.5 billion according to Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index. His wealth stems primarily from a long-standing licensing agreement with Nike, which began in the 1980s and led to the creation of his highly successful shoe brand. The former Chicago Bulls star also became the NBA’s second Black majority owner when he acquired a stake in the Charlotte Hornets in 2010, a position he held until selling his share last year.
This new G650ER appears to be an upgrade from Jordan’s previous private jet, a Gulfstream G550, which also featured a striking exterior design. It remains unclear whether Jordan plans to continue operating the G550 alongside his new acquisition.
Data from JetSpy indicates that Jordan’s G650ER has completed 13 flights in the past two weeks, with most of these trips likely related to the delivery process. These flights are estimated to have produced approximately 74 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions – roughly five times the average American’s yearly carbon footprint.
The purchase of this high-end aircraft further solidifies Jordan’s status as a global icon and business magnate, reflecting his continued success long after his retirement from professional basketball. As one of the most recognizable athletes in history, Jordan’s influence extends far beyond the court, encompassing various business ventures and luxury acquisitions such as this state-of-the-art private jet.
While the exact specifications and amenities of Jordan’s G650ER remain undisclosed, the aircraft’s reputation for comfort, speed, and long-range capabilities make it a fitting choice for a figure of his stature. As Jordan continues to make headlines both in the business world and for his philanthropic efforts, his new Gulfstream jet is likely to play a significant role in his global travels and endeavors.
