Empowering Future Business Leaders: East Georgia State College Launches New BBA Program in Spring 2025

East Georgia State College (EGSC) is set to introduce a new Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree program beginning in Spring 2025. This expansion builds upon the college’s most popular
associate’s degree offering, allowing students to complete their full business education at EGSC rather than transferring to other institutions.

The new BBA program aligns with EGSC’s mission to broaden its degree options and develop bachelor’s programs that address local workforce needs. Dr. Catherine Whelan, Provost and Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, expressed enthusiasm for the program,
highlighting its focus on career readiness and its potential to nurture future business leaders who can contribute to the local economy and meet regional workforce demands.

Designed to equip students with essential knowledge, skills, and experiences for success in various business and management roles, the BBA program offers a range of business courses tailored to student interests and needs. Specializations will be available in areas such as financial technology, healthcare administration, office
administration and technology, film and television post-production, and data science.

The program aims to forge partnerships with local employers, addressing their employees’ educational requirements and creating internship opportunities for students. Professor Natasha Goss, who serves as the Internship Coordinator, emphasized the importance of these internships in bridging classroom learning with real-world experience and fostering networking opportunities. She noted that these partnerships would benefit both students and local businesses while strengthening community ties and promoting economic growth in the region.

EGSC’s faculty, comprised of industry experts and experienced professionals, will bring practical knowledge into the classroom. The program emphasizes hands-on learning experiences through internships, projects, and case studies. Students will also have access to career services, including assistance with resume development, interview preparation, and internship placement.

The University System of Georgia Board of Regents approved the program in April 2023. Subsequently, the plan was submitted to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) for final approval, which was recently granted, allowing EGSC to launch the program in January 2025.

This new offering represents a significant step for EGSC in expanding its educational options and meeting the evolving needs of its student body and the local business community. By providing a pathway for students to complete a full bachelor’s degree in business
administration, EGSC is positioning itself as a key player in developing the region’s future business leaders and workforce.

The BBA program’s diverse concentrations reflect the college’s commitment to preparing students for various sectors of the modern business world. From the growing field of financial technology to the ever-important healthcare administration sector, students will have the opportunity to tailor their education to their career aspirations and the demands of the job market.

The emphasis on internships and practical experience is a crucial aspect of the program, ensuring that graduates are not only
academically prepared but also have real-world exposure to their chosen fields. This approach is likely to enhance graduates’ employability and their ability to contribute meaningfully to their future workplaces from day one.

As EGSC prepares to launch this new program, it stands poised to make a significant impact on the educational landscape of the region and the future of its business community. The college’s website will soon provide more information about the BBA program, and applications are expected to open in the near future, marking an exciting new chapter for EGSC and its students.
